Privacy Policy

VeriNear ("we," "our," or "us") operates the VeriNear mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using VeriNear, you agree to this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

• Account information — When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider. We store this in your VeriNear profile.
• Reviews — Star ratings and written reviews you submit for businesses or events within the app.
• Business listings — If you claim or create a listing as a business or event owner: business name, address, phone number, website, description, and category.
• Display name — The name shown on your reviews. You can edit this in your profile at any time.

Information collected automatically:

• Location data — The App requests your device location (while the app is in use) to show you nearby businesses and events. Location data is used in real time to run searches and is not stored on our servers after the search completes.
• Usage information — Standard app analytics such as which screens you visit and how often you search. This information is anonymized and used only to improve the App.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and maintain your VeriNear account.
• To show you nearby businesses and events relevant to your location.
• To display your reviews to other users on place detail pages.
• To let business owners manage their listings.
• To process payments for featured listing subscriptions (via Stripe — see Section 4).
• To improve the App and troubleshoot issues.
• To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

VeriNear integrates with the following third-party services:

• Google Places API — We use Google's Places API to search for and display nearby business information (names, addresses, ratings). Data from Google is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Google ratings and review counts displayed in the App are sourced directly from Google and are always labeled as such.
• Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In — We use these services for authentication. We receive only your name and email address. We do not receive your Google or Apple passwords.
• Supabase — Our database and authentication infrastructure provider. Your profile, reviews, and listing data are stored on Supabase's servers. Supabase is hosted on AWS and complies with SOC 2 Type II.
• Stripe — Payment processing for featured listing subscriptions. VeriNear does not store your full credit card number or payment credentials. All payment data is handled by Stripe and subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.

4. Payment Information

If you purchase a featured listing subscription ($25/month), payment is processed by Stripe, Inc. VeriNear receives confirmation that payment succeeded but does not store or have access to your full card number, CVV, or billing address. Stripe stores this information in accordance with PCI DSS standards.

5. Data Retention

• Account data — Retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 7).
• Reviews — Retained until you delete them or delete your account.
• Location data — Not stored after your search completes.
• Google Place IDs — Stored indefinitely as permitted by Google's Terms of Service. Google ratings and review counts are not stored long-term; they are fetched live each time you view a place.

6. Children's Privacy

VeriNear is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately at the address below.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information in your profile (editable in the app under Profile → tap your name).
• Delete your reviews at any time within the App (tap Edit or Delete on any review you have written).
• Delete your account and all associated data directly within the App: go to Profile → scroll to the bottom → tap Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, reviews, and all personal data. Your claimed business listings will remain on VeriNear but will become unclaimed.
• Opt out of any marketing communications (we currently send none).

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), Row Level Security on our database (ensuring users can only access their own data), and OAuth-based authentication (no passwords stored by VeriNear). No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
